Hi There Aethier! The lore team has come around and decided that we want to see how we can better ourselves and those willing [Thou who are reading this thread] in a bit of a writing exercise. Though purely optional of course, the topic is simple. An event Race needs to be written up with the Event race format. [You can find it on any event race thread]

The Topic?
An old Fantasy race: The Naga

If you wish to participate, the winner will receive a free patron upgrade [Minus Pat 7] or 5 patron keys, and have their lore piece put into the official public lore with little to no edits made.

Simply post the completed thread onto here, and we will review them at the End Date of July 15th.

The reason it is a bit of a contest is because we already have a piece written, but wish to see if there is something better to use instead of the one we have. Obviously we won't show it, but it does exist.

The Naga, The ancient protectors.
[Non-applicable race, sightings must be approved by the Lore team]

Description: The Naga, ancient snake-like beings, often centuries old, are seen as protectors of nature and great treasures, despite that they don’t seem it. The Naga are large serpentine creatures, they possess a very long body with extremely muscular upper bodies which have arms as well. Their skin, which consists of large scales is very strong, making it difficult to pierce with sharp weapons. These scales are of an aqua green color but can vary in shades from bright green to blue, however, the scales on the underside of their body are a yellow hue. On their necks they possess gills, allowing the creatures to breathe underwater while also being able to live on the land.

The Naga has large fins that spread from the edge of their tails to the back of their necks, these allow them to navigate the ocean and let the Naga possess great maneuver skills in the water. For even more speed the Naga also has fins between its thick fingers, on the side of their arms and 2 half circled fins around their necks. The fins around their necks are also used as a way to communicate and express emotions as the fins can move, this is especially important when they are under water. The Naga are naturally slower when on land but can still move around with average speed, they move just like a snake with the lower part of their body on land.

At the end of a Naga’s tail, a large and thick spike is seen, this spike is extremely dangerous as it can emit a pitch black poison that when injected into someone, has the power to paralyze someone completely and when not treated soon enough, the person is likely to die. However, a Naga has the choice whether to emit the poison or not so the spike isn’t always dangerous beside the fact that it is sharp.

The teeth of the Naga are extremely sharp as well and will more often than not when biting go to the bone and cause serious injuries. The claws of a Naga are very thick and make it difficult for the Naga to do precise work with their hands, they are however quite sharp and are perfect for fighting.

The Naga are known for their interest in shiny objects and their territorial nature around their treasures, the Naga tribes that exist all have a treasure which they protect with their lives. These treasures are often stored in narrow spaces like caves both on land and underwater, these treasure rooms often contain valuable objects.

Distribution: These creatures are often left alone or only approached with extreme care, though strengthening their numbers is not something the Naga are focused on. They will procreate in the spring and summer as well when their numbers seem low. This way their numbers are balanced but still slightly low. Because of this the Naga are considered uncommon.

Habitat: The Naga’s habitat is mostly at the edges of sea, near deep sea caves and just about anywhere where there is a large amount of water, they are able to survive in both sweet and salt water. They guard the places where they live with their life, it is very rare to see anyone else beside the Naga in their homes. They live in one place in tribes which consist of usually up to ten Naga.

Diet: The Naga are very protective of nature and thus will only make use of the need to harvest or kill when it is necessary. They will eat anything that is found, both plants and animals. They will not waste any food of nature and when a kill is made, all parts of the animal are used, nothing is left behind. For any that is taken, something will take its place, like when a crop is harvested, they will try to plant anew.

Relations: The Naga are usually not hostile towards people unless they are provoked, however, when they see someone disturb nature’s balance or tries to steal their treasure they will not hesitate to attack. The Naga are able to speak common, though it is rather difficult to understand them as they have a very odd gurgling voice. One can earn a bit of their trust when proving they care for nature, they will also appreciate any shiny and valuable objects given to them. Though this all will not make them like you, they only seek to bring balance and will respect anyone helping with that.

Mechanics:
· Intelligent
· Very protective of nature and their tribes’ treasures.
· Can breathe both on land and in the water.
· Extremely strong skin, hard to pierce with sharp weapons though vulnerable for blunt damage.
· Their tail possesses a very potent poison which can paralyze and kill someone.

Material properties: Their skin, when removed can take the place of chainmail as it is very hard to pierce and is also waterproof. The Naga’s claws can be made into potential weapons or even tools. Their spiky tail is actually hollow when the poison is removed and when thoroughly washed it can serve as a drinking mug or something like that.

Alchemical properties: The spiky tail can be removed from the Naga and inside the actual hollow spike is a potent pitch black poison. When it is on someone’s skin it can paralyze someone slightly but when consumed or injected it will paralyze someone almost completely and when not treated fast, the poison will spread to the limbs and eventually the heart and can then kill someone.

The Nagas, the Kakasarai, the Chosen of Akadam.
[Non-Applicable Race, Sightings must be approved by the lore team.]
Description/Summary:
The Nagas, or as they call themselves, Kakasarai, which loosely translates to 'Chosen' in the Naganese tongue, they are snake-like beings that inhabit all corners of the world, but seem to loosely favour jungles, deserts and other tropical environments, similar to their less advanced cousin, the snake, many believe that Nagas are the physical incarnation of Lamias, the mythical creature that is said to be part man, part snake, a Naga will easily tower over most beings, ranging from 6 feet in length to 10 feet, with their skin being made of thick scales. Nagas vary in appearance, with some of them having thick snouts and a maw full of teeth, similar to that of a predatory lizard, whereas othertimes they have flatter skulls, similar to a fish, and on some occasions, Nagas even have quasi-humanoid skulls. While Nagas are incapable of breeding with humanoid races, their form changes over time to suit the environment that they live in. A Naga that lives in a rich, fertile safe land with a lot of social contact will grow to eventually assimilate the form of their peers, whereas a Naga in a more dangerous, isolated setting will appear more feral and predatory, to suit this. One notable feature amongst all Nagas is that they lack legs, but rather have one large tail, similar to a snake, thus they get around by slithering. Because of this, Nagas in combat will never wear armour on their tail, but rather on their torso. Nagas are also very capable of swimming, due to their tail, which, depending on their upbringing, has the potential to develop smaller fins that may aid swimming. Naga skin colour differs, it is often green or blue, but has been seen as red, brown, purple, and in some cases, even white, as is the case with the extremely rare Albino Nagas.

As a result for the rich colour and tough nature of their skin, many brash hunters have attempted to hunt Nagas, to no avail. Nagas, originating from the deepest recesses and jungles of Ayinar, have been forced to adapt to a combative environment, and as such, even without physical armament, are a force to be reckoned with. On each hand they possess 3 fingers, each that possesses a wickedly sharp claw, both strong enough to sever a human limb in a single stroke, and sharp enough to cut through metal. Many warriors have been foolhardy enough to believe that plate mail would protect them from a Naga's vice-like grip. In combat, a Naga's scales are extremely strong, easily able to reflect even bladed weaponry that isn't serrated, as well as lighter axes and maces. They can also reflect arrows off their hide, provided that said arrows have not been modified to pierce heavy armour. Nagas lack humanoid ears, and instead rely on a series of fins on their head and back, which move in response to sound, and function almost identically to regular ears. However, if the tissue between the fins is torn, it can lead to hearing loss as well as balance being affected. View attachment mark-abadier-slithering-archer-markabadier.jpg

A Naga's sense of smell is much stronger than any humans, so strong in fact, that they can smell a source from up to a kilometre away, similar to sharks. This sense of smell is one of the main reasons why they are so elusive, they would smell a traveller a mile away and either hide or drive them away via the use of traps. Oddly enough, Nagas make extremely good engineers, due to their fine-tuned sense of physics and their expert determination of trajectory, thanks to their signature red eyes, which are extremely sensitive to movement of any kind. This is why, upon inspection of a Naga's home, one may find traps and engineering that would perplex a Dwarf. In terms of breeding, female Nagas lay eggs bi-monthly in a pattern similar to menstruation, and functions similarly. A male Naga must mate with a female Naga before she is due to lay an egg, in order for the egg to be fertilised. Culturally, beauty is often determined by the amount of colour that a Naga displays on their bodies, which displays both wealth and intelligence, both admirable traits to the Naga. As such, it is not uncommon to find Naga who decorate themselves similar to Dwarves, with metallic bracelets, necklaces, amulets and other rich jewelry.

View attachment naga_fanart_by_koraxart-d84rdw8.jpg(Your average Naga, keep in mind that most Nagas in enclaves are civilised to the extent where they wear some variety of clothing and use automatons to do most of their fighting)

Distribution: Nagas tend to often be either isolations, or to travel in packs. Despite this, there have been infrequent cases of Nagas coming into contact with civilised society, and assimilating themselves. Despite their reptilian appearance and physical strength, Nagas are highly intelligent, and capable of mimicking, if not learning human speech. Should this occur, it is possible for a Naga to integrate into normal society and function as such.

Habitat: Nagas are often found in Ayinar, functioning best in tropical or desert environments, their scales are more capable of refracting heat than absorbing it due to their cold blood. Although they can journey to colder climes in the north, it is extremely uncomfortable for them, and once temperatures are cold enough, it begins to freeze their blood, similar to the humanoid version of frostbite, but substantially quicker and almost always fatal.

Diet: Nagas are primarily carnivorous, but are also capable of eating fruits and vegetables, although their digestive systems are more accustomed to meat. In the circumstance of eating enough non-meat items without any meat in their diet, it causes them to become severely sick due to lack of protein, which is constantly required to keep a Naga's scales in peak toughness. Culturally, Nagas typically eat dishes that are made of different types of meat, as well as fish, and rarely, dairy products. Nagas rarely eat foods that come from farming or agriculture, given that their culture is nomadic in nature, thus warranting living off the land.

Relations: Nagas, while isolationist, territorial and at the worst of times, hostile, once they learn to trust an individual, they will be willing to speak to, trade with, and perhaps even let said individual into their territories. This is, however, rare, as Nagas possess a general attitude of xenophobia to the other races, due to the other races' attempts to hunt them. View attachment proxy.duckduckgo.com.jpg

Properties: As an alchemical ingredient, many of the Naga organs are far superior to their human counterparts, due to being healthier and larger, thus causing them to be sought out. Many, however, view trade of Naga organs as being illegal, as some view Nagas as people rather than animals or aliens. Their scales can also be appropriated into armour, which would rival lighter iron armour, and could be a genuine substitute for leather or chainmail, depending on the age, quality and state of the skin. A Naga's shed skin would degrade over time, whereas a fresh set of Naga scales recently skinned would have the physical consistency of iron or steel. Their claws are also extremely tough, and due to their sheer size, can be wielded as a substitute weapon, being roughly the size of a sickle.

Religion: Nagas worship a number of different pagan gods, but the primary god of their pantheon is Akadam, who they believe to have created all Naga at the beginning of time, who will return at the end, when the last Naga dies, to destroy the world and rebirth it, and them all anew, in a brand new cycle of life. Due to their belief in reincarnation, many Naga are ambivalent about negative concepts of the world, as part of their stoic attitude, and as such, they rarely commit crimes or actions out of anything other than pure necessity. It is extremely rare, if even, to find a Naga that has committed an unjustified murder, to loot or steal without either reason or religious calling. From a judicial standpoint, Nagas believe in the concept 'An eye for an eye', and beyond that, no persecution exists. If one were to attack a Naga, the Naga would seek them out for a duel, and upon defeating them, would forget the deed and treat them civilly following this. Because of their attitude, Nagas are seen by many as socially inept, and less than people, an attitude that the Nagas happily embrace in return for solitude.

(Symbol of Akadam, the circle represents Akadam, the outer limbs represent the 7 aspects of the world that Akadam governs, Life, Death, Fire, Ice, Earth, Air and Balance.)

Language: Nagas that have not integrated into society or had any form of contact with the other races will not speak common, and only speak the Naga's common language, known as L'kino, which involves a series of grunts, high-pitched clicking and growls. One key linguistic feature of Naga language is that the tone of their voice does not change in accordance with mood. Whereas if a human is angry, their tone will change to be more aggressive, Naga voices are typically monotone, giving off the impression that they are always calm, which is not often the case.

Origins: Many believe the Naga to have originated originally on Aethius before the arrival of the other races from the Exodus. The Naga themselves believe this, whether or not it be true, and in addition to their already xenophobic ways, typically treat human or expeditions with imperial intentions with extreme hostility (and often cruelty).

Society: The Naga operate as a meritocracy, and despite their elusive ways, are rarely nomadic. As such, lucky visitors to Naga society would be greeted by a society of efficiency and loyalty, where the typically cruel and inhumane court of a king would be replaced by the court of a Naga ruler, the Shabalmur. In a Shabalmur's court, instead of finding bureaucrats plotting to assassinate the king or puppet him, they are in constant competition to win his favour in exchange for finding their power. While this can be seen as power play or favoritism, to the Naga, it is simply working their way up in the world, to serve their lord well and be rewarded equally as well in return, it is for this that Naga bureaucracy is extremely efficient, and amongst the many things holding the Naga back, politics is not one of them.

Notable locations: Although the Nagas possess no major strongholds on the Aversia, some claim to have seen and heard of pockets and clans in the outer lands and islands. While none of these are verified to exist, the ones with the most sightings include:

View attachment 2af69e4e6faa4aa9a0acb0bbc7cc3eda--dwemer-ruins-dwarf-aesthetic.jpg(Entrance to Kal-Jammar would look like this, it is the only Naga enclave that is visible above ground, simply as a door)
Kal-Jammar, Ayinar, said to be a gigantic underground fortress inhabited almost exclusively by automatons, yet some report sightings of large hulking figures underground, and that masking one's presence sufficiently, it is possible to hear the sounds of a bustling city in what appears to be an abandoned ruin. It has been christened Kal-Jammar by native travellers, which roughly translates to 'Fortress of Ghosts'.

Lubontalskit, Aestatia, in the far flung corners, although no ruin has been discovered, odd events have been reported, from animals and caravans disappearing mysteriously on well-travelled and documented roads, to wildlife and animals being replaced by strange devices and metals rarely seen elsewhere, to the sounds of machinery working below the wildlands, the sound of steam, pumps and machinery whirring. It was named Lubontalskit after a scavenger found one of the strangely occurring objects, with indiscernable language on it, which when matched up to the closest language available, Dwarven, came out as the name Lubontalskit. The meaning is, as of yet, unknown.

The Crucible, Location Unknown, many believe that the Naga, despite their isolationist nature, are operating from a central location. Although attempts to cross-correlate the speculated locations of existing fortresses and enclaves have been met with mixed success and failure, the location of the Crucible yet remains unknown, as no one has been able to get close enough to any of their existing cities to find the location of the theorised Crucible. The only evidence that it exists is the different patterns on each form of artefact discovered by scavengers, with one particular artifact having a large-crucible-shaped object emblazoned on the side, hinting that the Crucible itself may be an arms factory or foundry rather than a fortress or city.

Mechanics:
  • Nagas often live for 90-200 years, depending on their choice of diet, their lifestyle, and where they live. A Naga that survives primarily on meat and fish in a tropical environment that is primarily a loner could easily survive for two centuries, whereas a Naga that lives in an urban environment and eats mainly processed, baked or non-meat food, with a cosmopolitan lifestyle would find their health deteriorating quickly due to stress on their anti-social capacity and organs.
  • Nagas are twice as strong as most humanoids in combat, being almost as strong as a Hrim Giant.
  • Their eyes are extremely sensitive to movement as well as light, and can adjust far quicker than a human. A blinding flash of light that would stun a human for a few seconds would take a Naga a split-second to adjust. Unlike human eyes, which dilate and contract for light, Naga eyes have an oval-shaped horizontal pupil in the centre, which gets darker the brighter it is.
  • In terms of armour and weapons, Nagas tend to favour more long-ranged, slower weapons such as polearms, battleaxes and staffs due to their size and the Naga's own strength, whereas for Armour, they almost exclusively use heavy armour, which exacerbates their already tough exterior.
  • Nagas are immune to most diseases that are bacterial or fungal in origin, but are still weak to viruses. Due to lack of contact between the races, they are also far weaker to more mundane diseases that the other races have come to adapt to.
  • Nagas, while no more resistant to fire than other races, are weaker to cold due to their blood freezing, which causes the veins to clot, which can ultimately be fatal. However, Nagas are immune to most forms of poisons, due to having a far greater count of red blood cells in their blood, and this is proven in their lungs, which are twice the size of a normal humanoid's. As a result of this, their blood is also a deep, rich purple.
  • Nagas have higher tolerance to alcohol than the other races, due to their livers being three times larger than another being's, since they process poison faster. Their brain is five times the length of a human's, but only half as wide. They have two hearts, each of which is one and a half times the size of a human heart. They possess two sets of kidneys, which are the same size as a human's, but they last twice as long due to high oxygen rates in the blood, and low lactic acid count. Their stomach is one and a half times the size of a human stomach. Their colon is twice as large, allowing them to go for up to a fortnight without defecating. They also have a bladder that is three times the size. They have three appendixes, all of which are higher up in the body than that of a human, two of which tube off from the main appendix. They have two pancreas, and thus produce higher amounts of insulin than a human, making it twice as rare for them to have a blood sugar overdose issue, but they are much more prone to blood sugar deficiency. Due to this, Nagas sleep much more than a regular humanoid, sleeping for up to 15 hours at a time, but usually sleeping for 12-13 hours. They possess a single spleen that is half the size of a regular spleen, as blood filtration primarily takes place through the kidneys, and toxins usually have too little of an effect to actually affect the Naga. They do not possess a gallbladder, due to having very fast metabolisms, which causes them to gain very little fat over time. Their sexual organs are the same as that of a snake's. Their bones are twice as thick as a human's. Despite being capable of living in an aquatic environment and being reptilian, they are unable to develop gills, or breathe water without the aid of magic.
  • Due to Nagas having worse social abilities than humans, they are also prone to far more mental diseases. As such, mental disorders are seen as a factor of life more than a disability in Naga society, and many aspects of their culture are developed to deal with these diseases. It is not uncommon to speak to a Naga with many traits of Autism, or with anxiety, that may have a speech deficiency. However, Nagas, despite their anti-social nature, can be confident, and tend to possess an attitude of extreme patience and at times, pure stoicism.

PSA: Any interaction, sighting or RP with these creatures must be approved by staff or be in a lore-approved event. Anything else is prohibited until further notice.

Nagas

Description:

Nagas are reptilian humanoids, appearing, and in fact being, entirely reptilian. At full maturity, they can reach lengths of up to 17’ on average, usually angling themselves upright with their bodies, and while doing so, they end up ‘standing’ at around 8-9’. These creatures also tend to live for around 150 years on average, but some have been seen to reach ages of up to 200 years old. Based upon their places of residence, their variety of scale pigmentation differs to camouflage their bodies with the environment. They all seem to primarily hold a similar eye color of a deep, crimson red. Their head shapes generally can be comparable to the ‘pit viper’ group, holding a triangular shape. Their fangs are around 8-9” long on average, being the medium through which a paralysis inducing-venom is administered to foes. They themselves are highly resistant to this venom however.

Nagas also tend to have claws that develop in maturity, typically reaching 3-4”, able to be used for slashing and stabbing. Their movements typically resemble that of their evolutionary cousins, snakes, although their torsos above the hips tend to remain bent down, leaning forward in combatant situations, but otherwise have a straighter posture in un-hostile situations. Their movements when in combat are typically able to be described as erratic, sudden, and lethal. However, this race can easily be described as sentient, and even rather intelligent at that, having their own language, which is known amongst them as ‘Nokharu’, consisting of a large variety of hissing noises varying in length and volume, although they seem capable of speaking other languages, although they heavily hold prejudice against them, leading to most cases of combat with this race’s members if others enter their caves without explicit permission, although that in itself is equally rare of them to do.

Distribution:

Nagas are typically extremely rare, as they tend to keep to themselves, away from the reaches of most other creatures other than those they prey upon. The case of encounter is typically one that is accidental, as they make a purposeful effort not to interact with the mammalistic races that roam and possess the land.

Habitat:

Nagas typically take up residence in large caves with sunlight access, as they generally need to sunbathe to assist with bodily function, and some sort of water sources for drinking purposes as most of the time, their prey doesn’t give them enough on its own. Although they hold no exact area to locate in, as they can survive in the plains, savanna, jungle, desert, etc. But the one place they cannot live in is areas with extremely low temperatures and especially snowfall.

Diet:

The diets of nagas typically consist of moderately large mammals, such as boars, striped antelopes, and on occasion, even wolves. But it is not out of the question for one of these beings to consume a member of another race that isn’t too large, as their bodies are in fact akin to snakes, they can unhinge their lower jaw if need be to get food into their mouths.

Relations:

Nagas make serious efforts to keep themselves away from the other races, from moving their caves of residence away from civilization, to setting traps up to deter those who would curiously explore caves. When faced with encounters with other races, they can become highly territorial and aggressive, typically instantaneously assuming that they wish to harm their young. Amongst themselves however, Nagas tend to live relatively close together, in relative distance to what a regular town would entail, typically living in general groups of 40-50 Nagas at a time.

Mechanics:

  • Own language which is extremely difficult for other races to interpret/understand properly.
  • Tough scales resistant to slashing.
  • Nagas have easier times move throughout cave systems with the ‘pits’ in their heads.
  • Have ‘pits’ in their faces near their nostrils, allowing them to easily navigate and locate areas and find creatures due to heat differences in the environment.
  • Highly Intelligent.
  • Able to unhinge jaws to consume prey.
  • Typically utilize weaponry and in some cases, even armor created in similar fashions to the other races if not taken from them on occasion.
  • Average Lifespan of 150 years of age.

Here's hoping mine bloody wins, I spent about 3 hours typing mine up, LMAO. Made it as specific as I possibly could. Sorry if it's tedious.
This is a contest, bud. We are not measuring lengths it took to construct lore, we are comparing the lore itself. This thread is for submissions. I do not even wish to be making a response here, but I feel as though you sort of need a reminder. Trying to look humble should be nullified beyond a doubt.

Alrighty. I hope that my words weren't taken negatively. All I'm saying is that I hope quality AND quantity are taken into consideration here. Quality is important, but a thousand knights is more effective than one.

Kandoiie

“A Danakov child is most vigilant when near the banks of brackish water. Their peoples call them Kan’der, serpentine beasts of the muck.” - Amrynn Craleth, Folset Naturalist.

Art Credit goes to Daarken, www.daarken.com

Description:
It is commonly upheld in the realm of naturalism, that there is almost always a species that preys upon a dominant predator. At times, these predators sink into the realm of verbal myth and children’s horror stories. In the case of Men, such lies in the ever-present fear of Lycanthropy. To those Argione Danakov, however, these stories are mirrored in-part by the rarely seen Kandoiie, or as in the Beastmen tongue, Kan’der.

Kandoiie are ferocious creatures, rumored a distant relative of the very same Danakov that fear them. Their similarities, however, end there. Kandoiie possess serpentine bodies from the mid-hip, stretching to a thickly muscled tail. This tail, mirroring the shape and structure of a constrictor-snake, extends to a length of twenty feet in adults. Newborns and Younglings possess tail-lengths of three feet and twelve feet respectively.

The serpentine beasts bear a torso not dissimilar to that of the other humanoid-races in structure. Their upper bodies are significantly more developed in musculature than their Danakov and humanoid counterparts, seeming more akin to large Orcish creatures. These upper bodies are covered in a series of small scales and thick skin- the texture being extended upwards from the tail. A Kandoiie adult’s torso is typically five feet from hip to collar bone, and considerably stocky, tapering very little from the tail’s joint. Kandoiie do not develop their significant musculature until later in life, beginning around twenty-two years of age. Their species lacks sexual dimorphism, however, and the females are almost entirely indistinguishable from the males in terms of physical bulk.

Kandoiie bear upon a thick and low-set neck, a large viper-esque head. Barring the fatty-tissue along the top ridges of their skulls, no other outstanding features make themselves present. Their eyes are typically yellow or orange in color, and lie deeply within the foreward-sides of their skulls. Kandoiie possess no eyelids, instead bearing clear scales that cover their eyes.

Given that the majority of the Kandoiie are located in and around brackish waterways and heavily-forested coastlines, their colors tend to be an extensively muted palette of pale browns, greens, and yellows. On occasion, however, a Kandoiie will be born with bright and fluorescent colorations, a marking that sets them apart from their more reservedly colored brethren.

Distribution:
Kandoiie are primarily located around the rivers and deltas of Southern Aversia, and upon the islands further south, where Rohalast and the homes of the Beastmen lay. It is not uncommon for parties of Kandoiie to venture further north, but they will not stray far from sources of water.

Habitat:
Kandoiie are most similar to water-dwelling snakes, and their standard habitat reflects this. Unlike their more primal counterparts, however, Kandoiie possess the most basic of tribally organized societies. Living in and around the banks of rivers and river deltas, it is typical for Kandoiie hovels to be dug into the rich clay of the banks- stretching for tens of feet into the drier earth. Entrances to these homes, however, are covered by water, which laps just above their circular openings.

Generally, Kandoiie live in groups of eight to fifteen, possessing a string of dwellings along a single stretch of river. These creatures are quite territorial, and tend to respect the borders of other Kandoiie families. It is incredibly unusual for these creatures to assemble into large groups, though it is not unheard of. Danakov oral history tells of a few distinct periods where the Serpent-people rallied behind one of these ‘bright’ brothers, and form raiding parties numbering several hundred strong.

Diet:
Kandoiie are carnivorous. Their diet is typically that of medium to small game, consumed raw- having been captured by physical brawn, or felled through the use of simple hunting weapons. Their diet rarely includes that of the ‘sentient’ races, though Beastman and Danakov alike are considered delicacies to these creatures. Should one fall into their grasp, a familial celebration is pitched to honor the gift that the River had given them.

These serpentine beasts know little, if anything, of the races of Men and Elves- such, it is uncertain as to whether or not they would consider such things as food. Should a person enter their territory willingly, though, it would not end well.

Relations:
As in tune with the prior explanations of their kind, Kandoiie are prone to consider all other creatures, either threat or prey. It is told, by those Elves of Folset whose scientific parties had given the earliest research of them, that the Kandoiie were much avoided, and little contact was made between them. It has been witnessed, however, for a few individual tribes of Kandoiie to possess more amicable relations with the Beastmen and Danakov that live near them. Presumably, these few are progressing more towards a civilized, agrarian society.

Inter-tribal relations are quite tragic at the best of times. Inter-tribal marriage is common, and small skirmishes occurring because of these marriages is even moreso. Typically, tribes of Kandoiie will remain in amicable terms, until either group breaches the other’s territory to chase prey. If such occurs, the vengeance upon these trespassers is swift and without mercy.

In tune with the legend of the Kan’der, spoken of in whispers by some Danakov families- it is only the ‘Bright’ ones which may unite more than one tribe. Something differs between these special members of their race- they either possess greater intelligence, arcanic powers, or something altogether more sinister.

Mechanics:
  • Kandoiie, or Kan’der, live to an approximate age of Eighty (80).
  • Kandoiie are immensely strong, typically greater than that of an Orc.
  • Adult Kandoiie possess tails of twenty feet in length, and are capable of utilizing it in the manner of a constrictor snake.
  • Kandoiie form tribal groups of eight to twelve, typically one to two individual families.
  • Kandoiie are usually restricted to muted browns, greens, and yellows- their skin and scales reflecting the environment they inhabit.
  • On incredibly rare occasions- once every few decades, a ‘Bright One’, a Kan’der with bright and exotic colorations, is born. These ‘Bright Ones’ are rumored to be capable of uniting multiple tribes, and embarking on enormous ‘raids’.
  • Kan’doiie are predatory in nature, and incredibly hostile to those who would intrude upon their river-bound territories.

Alchemical Properties:
None currently discovered- though it is plausible some research conducted into the potency of the Kandoiie's immune system may result in beneficial acquisitions in the field of Alchemy.

Material Properties:
Kandoiie hide is incredibly tough, and could provide a decent leather- however, the true benefit of it is the naturally camouflaged waterproofing it may provide.

Naga [Nah-gah]

[Non-Applicable Race, Sightings Must be Approved by Lore Team]
Description: The Naga, Serpentine creatures of the blazing sands known only to a few. With scales rising up their bodies and coating them as a whole, perhaps the most recognisable detail of these beastmen is their lack of a spine, much like their smaller counterparts. Specific looks vary per individual, though a good few things stay the same. From head to tail, the Naga slides a mighty 16', varying from that to 17'4". They are typically seen trailing through the sands with the majority of their body sliding back and forth, their upper body upright and in the air, a pair of narrow, though equally strong arms coming out their sides. The color of these aforementioned scales vary species to species and individual to individual, though the majority are seen as white with black and white portions, often referred to a as a 'sidewinder'.

Not only are they capable of normal sight, though with the added benefit of their 'pit organs' on the sides of their faces, they are able to see via infrared light. Due to a thin membrane of protein being layered within these organs, they are able to detect and follow their prey from up to 5' away, a good amount more than the typical snake thanks to their sheer size. Because of this added benefit, their normal sight takes a heavy toll, being much less effective than the typical sentient life. The Naga has short slits of a nose by the end of their faces, having an average sense of smell. Their fingers are short and elongated, having easily enough strength to hold things well, including weaponry. The Naga are swift creatures, though that's not to say their giving up their strength for such, utilising their strength to excel their speed across the sands, having exceptional reflexes. They do have fangs, though are extremely scarcely found as venomous.

Distribution: Rare.

Habitat: The Naga are seen exclusively in the desert, often times within its centre and away from civilisation as a whole, forging their own portable homes to stay on the run and out of sight.

Diet: Naga eat exclusively meats, refraining from vegetables and the likes. They quite like eggs of any creature and will often go out of their way to secure such in their grasp. It typically takes a fair few days to digest food, meaning they have an adequate digestion system, so if the need was to arise they are capable of eating slightly rotten food.

Relations: Due to a long history with mankind of all forms, the Naga are extremely hostile and difficult to speak with and even find, not necessarily making sure to cause harm to anyone, though trying immensely hard to not come in contact with them. They are usually seen as lone hunters, though can form small civilisations together with a common goal in mind: survival. The Naga is an intelligent life form, being sure to educate their young to a well extent before letting them go to create their own path.

Mechanics:
  • Above average strength and mobility, letting them move across the sands with exceptional speed and grace.
  • Infrared vision.
  • The Naga have trouble navigating through anything that is not the sands, often getting caught on things due to their massive forms and generally finding it difficult to move.
  • Extremely intelligent.
  • Rather spiritualistic, following the gods in hopes of a better day.
  • Hard to find, staying to the centre of the desert and often moving around.
  • Able to consume slightly rotten foods.

Alright, I have deduced a winner. Two pieces in this thread really struck my eye-but only one can win. While there is certainly improvement for both of them to make, the winner of this contest is!!!!

@Vmwareguy2 , with @Brooksided taking second place in a near tie.

However there IS good news. Both pieces are quite good, so we'll be taking them both in to modify, so each can become an independent event race in the lore-though likely with some genetic relation. Congratulations to the winner! Please contact Nini to collect your free patron rank or 5 patron keys!
