The Conqueror
House Hollowgale and Vassal House Aardynar hereby declares a state of readiness throughout Vinnagard's lands. Garrisons are once again replenished, patrols are doubled, training fields are manned by the hundreds. And again, the winds of war blow and eventually arrive to the Northern Lands. Logistical routes are laid out on maps, quartermasters argue in armories while heated discussions take place in the Jarl's Longhouse. From the small crowd, the newly appointed Archmage is tasked with orchestrating the on-goings while the Jarl herself leads the endeavor herself. With the closure of that day, and the timely arrival of the next one's morn, the banners of House Aardynar fly high and into the wastes they march to establish a forward outpost.
This post provides the initial declaration and the map. After this post will come the first round for Vinnagard. ok. @That_one_niceguy @Chae

Allotted Unit Amount: 5.000 Men Strong

Bulwark: 4.000
Expeditionary Force: 250
Artillery Branch: 250
Medical Branch: 250
Specialized Forces: 250

Forward Command’s Orders

All Officers of the Bulwark,
As the bulk of our army, it is your task to defend and retaliate until the very point when our assault begins. It is of utmost importance that our engineers achieve what they had been tasked with, and that no scout slips past us. In tandem with our expeditionary force, your units’ objectives are to repel any hostile force attempting to gain entry into our lands.

All Officers of the Expeditionary Force,
The Expeditionary Branch upholds a constant flow of information toward Command at all times with timely reports of both situation and opportunity.

- Under no circumstance approach the walls or enter the city itself.
- At all times conceal your presence, it is not within our interest to lose any member of the brigade.
- All and any opportunity and noteworthy advantage that can be taken must be reported back to High Command with utmost haste and precision.

A meeting is soon held within the Forward Command’s base. With utmost urgency, Scouts Yrre and Drachir are hereby summoned to attend. Jarl Hollowgale will be awaiting alongside with myself.

All Officers of the Artillery Branch,
Preparations have already began. The desired location will soon be designated and thus every relevant officer will be briefed in an oncoming moot. Our newfound ammunition is going to be available in the Forward Command Armory, place queries at Quartermaster Xyl for further information. Engineer Erik Berengar has been tasked with supervising the constructions of Ballistas and the proper handling of the brand new ammunition. Ensure that every siege engineer reports in at him.

Hyssir’larhaa Aardynar
All Officers of the Medical Branch,
During this scenario, Huskarl Reina Piscaes is appointed as head to the Medical Brigade. The numbers allotted to this part of our army is rather diminishing, however, its importance does not fall behind any other branches. I expect no bodies left behind. Our enemy can replenish its strength from such.

Currently no actions are being taken that would raise suspicions save for an arrow being sent over the walls with a message tied to it.

An arrow is shot above the walls with a small scroll tied to it.

A Letter

To the Esteemed Lieutenant of Xia,
I write to you in hopes of gleaning an opportunity of acquainting myself with your person better. Thus, I invite you to a brief game of chess on neutral territory.

*From the sky the arrow would plunge into the dark shroud over the city of Xia. Diving into its lower districts barely making it over the tall walls before arcing and falling, setting its arrow tip into the skull of a static lesser undead. With the arrow sinking into its skull it would not know what to do until a more sentient being of the city would come to retrieve whatever notice it was. After a brief period of gut-busting laughter made from those around one of the many beings within Xia would fashion a letter on parchment. In that following night a grand Dullahan would be seen by scouts leaving the walls of Xia with a small scroll in its off-hand. Dragging behind it it's profane sword should anyone attack the Dullahan outright they would find themselves with death. To the first of them who'd stay their blade to receive the letter the Dullahan would drop the crumpled parchment into the hand of the soldier and leave as it came. When delivered to whoever it needed to be read by the purple ink on old parchment would read as follows.*

"Spare me useless shite, arrow-sender. If you wish to speak to Xia you will go through the first gate and remain there until you are met. If you go through the second gate you will meet the same fate as all your other Outsider comrades. Leave your chessboard so we might not waste each-other's time and you might speak your peace."

*However crudely the words bit the calligraphy of the writing would be smooth and elegant, finished with no name of owner.*

It takes a short while, but the letter is escorted into the hands of one who can transmit the message to the General. Hearing first handedly the response from within the city, a simple sigh leaves the six horned being's lips. "Hmpf." He quirks a brow, then begins to snicker. "Should I not return, you know what to do." As he turns about, he signs a simple document and allows scouts and the like roam hidden to observe patrols, stations, siege weaponry and the general readiness of the city. Ravens go here and there, somewhere wolves sniff and Aervan eyes scour... There is certainly a threat looming on the horizon, and one that appears battle ready to any scout Xia has. However, these fall just out of reach.

In Regards to Land Scouts: To those traversing on foot or horseback those would see the grand walls of Xia seemingly untouched by the ravages of time and unable to even see the towering buildings within. Regarding any patrols of the undead outside of the city that would be plain to assume after a few rounds that there were no such external patrols. Should anyone come too close to the wall or attempt to climb the walls they would find either boulder or arrow dropped onto their heads with swiftness.

In Regards to Aerial Scouts: To those of the air they would be capable to see within the walls of Xia although not as they expected to see. Only to see a thick blanket of purple/gray/black shroud above the city nothing below would be capable to be actively spied on. Should the crows dive into the blanket they would not return to their masters and if they would hover above Xia for too long they would once more not return to their masters.

TLDR:
  • No External Patrols though the walls would be monitored.
  • Thick shroud over the city blocking off vision to the inside of the city.
  • Land Scouts see nothing but the tall wall. Aerial Scouts see nothing but the thick shroud.
  • Aerial Scouts who go too close to Xia or hover for too long do not return to the main Vinnagard force.

To be noted by the Scouts of Vinnagard:
By both land and aerial scouts who do not get to close and die at or above the city reports would come in that soon after Hyssir's meeting with a bottom-of-the-barrel captain of Xia undead would be seen rustling on top of the walls as well as forming at the gate. 2 Dullahan with 6 Lesser Undead would be seen guarding the front gates now and no less than hundreds on top of the walls. Reports could be read either as they were preparing for an attack or some might think it was only a means to securing their defense. Either way the presence of the undead would be well seen by the scouts who remain at a distance to the city.
While scouts would be allowed to come and go the undead would still have no tolerance to those who get to close, the bodies of the scouts would be allowed back to Vinnagard as they were not ones who suffered.
